

Richard Barns Wade passed away peacefully at his home on February 16, 2016 at the age of 82. He was born on July 4, 1933 in Morgantown, WV to parents Jesse and Ruby Wade and grew up on the family farm in Green County, PA. He served his country in the USAF during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1954 stationed in Japan as an Air Traffic Controller. He continued his career in civilian life as an ATC Instructor with the Federal Aviation Administration and retired after 32 years from Dulles International Airport in 1987. He continued to work for the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority and retired again in 1998.
He was a past member of the Leesburg Baptist Church, Leesburg, VA where he served for many years as a Deacon, a mentor to young men in their Christian walk and ministering to the homebound. He fostered many great friends during his life in Leesburg who remain close today. He was a member of the Walnut Hills Baptist Church and active with the Men’s Prayer Group ministry and a member of the Gideon International. He served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 2nd Masonic District of Virginia, was a life time member and Past Master of Ashburn Lodge No. 288, a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of the Alexander Scottish Rite. He treasured the many new friendships since becoming a resident of Williamsburg in 2003. He loved life and lived fully serving God, country and family. He enjoyed many hobbies to include riding his “Harley” - “full throttle” and biking in his younger years to driving his 1931 Model A Ford on tour with the Colonial Virginia Model A Ford Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Ruby Wade; two brothers, Franklin and Thomas Wade; and infant son, Patrick Wade. He is survived by his loving wife Glenda, of 41 years; two step-sons, Jonathann (Bonnie) Ashford of DE and Timothy (Sue) Ashford of NC; son Richard Kenneth Wade of VT; three grandchildren, Bryan Ashford of Florida, Brianna (Andrew) Duckworth of OH and Kimberley (Francis) Gott III of DE; sister Ann Van Voorhis of West Virginia; and several nieces, nephews and many close friends.
A Memorial service will be held on February 27th at 1:00 P.M., at the Walnut Hills Baptist Church, 1104 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA. Interment will be in Mount Morris, PA at a later date.
