Robert (Bob) Graham Carns, 75, of Williamsburg, VA went to be with his Lord on August 28, 2017 after a brief, intense battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry R. Carns and Frances (Knupp) Carns. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and sisters, Kristine Christianson and Kathryn (Ted) Droppa, along with numerous nieces and nephews whom he cherished. He also leaves his beloved dog, Miguel.
Bob served in the U.S. Army for three years after high school. Following graduation from the University of Maryland, he became a National Park Service Ranger in interpretation at Prince William Forest Park, VA, Glen Echo Park, MD, and Clara Barton National Historical Site, MD, until his retirement in 2005.
Bob and Dorothy's love of history brought them to Williamsburg in 2008, where they supported Colonial Williamsburg as Burgesses. They enjoyed Colonial Williamsburg's many activities and took classes with the Christopher Wren Association. Bob sang in the Williamsburg United Methodist Church choir and was a member of the Marvin Willard Sunday School Class. He was especially supportive of the local mission and shelter activities of the church.
Bob and Dorothy enjoyed the daily exercise routine at the JCC Rec Center and their many friends there. Bob was an animal lover, avid fisherman, golfer and outdoors man who supported conservation activities.
The family extends thanks to the nurses and staff of Morningside Assisted Living and Hospice Community Care for their care and attention during his stay.
