Robert “PeeWee” McKinley Martin, 71, of Williamsburg, Virginia was born January 6th, 1955 and passed away on January 29th, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eric Martin and Clara Berkley Martin.
Robert graduated from James Blair High School (class of 1973) and later from Thomas Nelson Community College, where he studied Electrical Engineering.
He retired as a Service Representative and Shipping and Supplies Supervisor at O-I, in Toano, Virginia where he spent over 30 years. He also worked at Toano Middle School and Warhill High School for over 10 years as a Teacher’s Assistant.
Robert was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church where he was the leader of the audio/visual team. He was also a Trustee and served as Chairman of the Trustees when NZBC completed Phase 2 of the building project, which included the sanctuary. He was also instrumental in the construction of the South Campus. He later became a Deacon, where he served faithfully. He organized the NZBC Men’s Mission’s trip to New Orleans following hurricane Katrina, where they assisted with clean-up and rebuilding for 14 years. He also drove for The Arc of Greater Williamsburg.
Robert’s love was music and repairing record players, speakers, amps, and receivers— making them new again. He also enjoyed working in his yard, particularly on his lawn. Robert always made himself available to lend a helping hand and assisting anyone who needed help.
He had a special love for the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he and his wife went to training camp every single year. He cherished spending time with his family, and had a deep love for his grandchildren, where he made his time with them intentional. He just enjoyed life and everyone he was with. He loved God, loved others, and he served humanity. He was a clear example of “let the work I’ve done speak for me.”
Robert is survived by his wife, Dawn Roots Martin; son, Robert McKinley Martin, Jr. (Rachel); daughter, Kimberly Martin Brown (Deon); grandchildren, Breanna Brown, Samantha Brown, Vivien Martin, and Camille Martin; and siblings, Eric Martin (Linda), Randall Martin (Lois), and Jock Martin (Debbie).
A service will be held on Friday, February 27th, 2026 at 12:00 PM at the New Zion Baptist Church, 3991 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, Virginia. Interment will follow at the New Zion Baptist Church cemetery.
