Later he worked for the FAA in Charles, City, VA and Richmond International Airport. After retirement, he worked as a Maintenance Manager at a nearby community center and the “old” St. Bede’s Catholic Church, in a similar position,
He is survived by his daughters, Hope Collier (Barry), Heather Hunnicutt (Rusty), Brenda Bros (Victor), and Elizabeth Hill, as well as his sons, Thomas Staples, and John Staples (deceased). In addition to his professional skills in electronics, computers, and repair work, Robert's greatest joy, aside from his faith and family, was piloting his own airplane, which brought him numerous adventurous experiences and thrills.
Contributions in Robert's memory can be made to MAF (Missionary Aviation Fellowship) and King of Glory Lutheran Church (Social Outreach Fund).
