

Rudolph Joseph List, of Williamsburg, VA, born on January 1, 1926, in Corona, New York, passed peacefully on April 3, 2016. He celebrated his 90th birthday with joy surrounded by the family he loves. Rudy, served in the US Army as a translator in Germany during World War II. He was a Technical Sergeant of the 33rd Field Artillery Battalion. He also served as a Sergeant First Class in the Enlisted Reserve Corps. He graduated from Clarkson University with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree. He received his Masters of Science in Applied Math and a Master’s in Business Administration from Adelphi University. He retired after 36 years from Unisys Corporation, which was formed from the merger of Sperry Corporation (where Rudy spent his career) and Burroughs. Rudy worked primarily on navigation systems for military aircraft and submarines, in various engineering and management capacities. He loved dogs, golf, bridge, and traveling the world. His last journey was to Normandy, France. Rudy was predeceased by his daughter Laurie Cordes and is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shirley List of Williamsburg, VA, daughter Karen List of Glastonbury, CT, son Michael and his wife Linda List of Huntersville, NC, daughter Judith List and her husband Bret Buesing of Naples, FL, son Christopher and his wife Lanie List of Brooklyn, NY, his stepchildren Linda and Art Schlemmer of Cincinnati, OH, Stephen and Lee Buente of Hamilton Square, NJ, Leslie and Leonard Hirsh of Venice, FL, Lisa Towns of Middletown, DE, and Kevin Buente of Glen Mills, PA and his 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His family is grateful for the care he received from the staff at Brookdale and Sentara Hospice. He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
