

Ruth Marie Hughes, of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away peacefully on September 28, 2016 at the age of 92. She was born in Superior, Wisconsin on January 21, 1924 to Pastor Roland Carl Schlueter and Anna Herbener.
Ruth was a second grade teacher for many years. After retirement, she and her husband Jim settled in Williamsburg where she began her second career volunteering at Colonial Williamsburg. She proudly received her 20 year pin from the president of the foundation this last spring. Ruth was also an active member of King of Glory Lutheran Church.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Pastor James Andrew Hughes and her sister, Margaret Dettmann. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Pastor Arnold Schlueter (Helen) of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Eleanor Arneson of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin; children, Michael (Barbara) of Carson City, Nevada, Cathy (Edmonds, Jim) of Toano, Virginia, Timothy (Diane) of Madison, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at King of glory Lutheran Church, 4897 Longhill Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188 on Oct 15th at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the King of Glory Mission Dedicated fund or Heritage Humane society, 430 Waller Mill Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
