

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Lloyd Ayers and Lois Allene Ayers, and her brother, Kenneth Lloyd Ayers, Jr.
She graduated from high school and business school and went on to work as a bookkeeper and secretary, most notably at J.E.J. Moore Junior High School. Shirley took pride in her work and was known for her reliability and dedication.
A woman of strong faith, Shirley was a devoted member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Church Choir and Circle. She was also a former member of First United Methodist Church in Hopewell, Virginia.
Throughout her life, Shirley enjoyed staying active and connected with others. While living in Oklahoma, she loved square dancing, and during her time in Prince George, she participated in a bowling league. After retiring, she moved to Claremont to enjoy life on the river before relocating to Williamsburg in 2004 to be closer to family. Her favorite pastimes included playing games with family and friends, gardening, and working on jigsaw puzzles and crosswords.
Above all else, Shirley found joy in her family and friends, cherishing time spent together, sharing laughter, and creating lasting memories.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Earl Gene Turner; her son, David Turner; and her daughters, Sandra McDaniel and Terri Barras (with Jeff Barras). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Justin McDaniel (with Melissa Schoenle), Spencer Barras (with Blayne Barras), and Caitlyn Shuler (with Kol Shuler), as well as her great-grandchildren, Karson Shuler and Cooper Shuler.
A memorial service will be held at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Toano, Virginia, on January 11 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at James City Chapel Cemetery.
