Sue Thompson Elliott (75), loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 6, 2016, after an extended struggle with dementia. Sue was born in Marion, VA on October 15, 1940, the second of five children born to Raymond and Virginia Thompson. At the age of six, Sue’s family moved to Hampton, VA where she attended the public schools and was a member of the Hampton High School class of 1958. She was active in the drama club and enjoyed working on the productions. Sue also met the love of her life and future husband, Graydon Elliott, while in high school. After graduation she worked for the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company as a secretary. In 1960, she married Graydon and entered a new life as an Air Force wife, living at Travis Air Force Base, California; Dallas, Texas; and Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, where her two children, Graydon Jr. and Kimberly were born.
In 1968 the family returned to the Peninsula and lived in Hampton, Yorktown, and Williamsburg. Sue was the ultimate homemaker, always practicing hospitality and providing an atmosphere of love, compassion, and Godly faith. Sue worked on occasion as a floral designer, secretary, and office manager, but was totally dedicated to her family and raising her children as a loving mother. Sue was active in her church, serving as Sunday School teacher, Children’s Choir Director, Youth Volunteer, and Church Secretary. One of her fondest memories was establishing Wednesday night fellowship dinners at Seaford Baptist Church where she prepared weekly meals for over 100 people. For the past 27 years as a member of Williamsburg Community Chapel, she has continued her service to the Lord of her life. Additionally, she was an active volunteer for FISH and Meals on Wheels in the Williamsburg area. One of Sue’s passions was sharing the word of the Lord through Christian poetry. She loved to write about her trust and faith in Jesus. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but her memory will live on as an example and tribute of a person of great faith in the Lord.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Graydon; her daughter Kimberly Elliott Stone (husband Ken); sisters Ann Bruce and Lynn White (husband John); and brother Tommy Thompson (wife Karen). Sue was preceded in death by her son, Graydon Jr., her parents, and sister June.
