Thomas Marion Shriver

Thomas Marion “Tom” Shriver of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on May 5, 1959, in Baltimore, Maryland, Tom lived a life defined by passion, resilience, humor, and deep love for his family and community.

Tom graduated from Avon High School in 1977 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut in 1981. A natural athlete, he excelled in baseball, football, hockey, golf, and tennis, bringing a competitive spirit and love of the game to everything he did.

He built a successful career in technology sales, beginning at NCR, where he met his wife of 40 years, Ann, the love of his life. He continued his career with Metavante, Fiserv, C.A. Technologies, and Verizon. Tom was known for his leadership, mentorship, and the genuine interest he took in people. He had a way of making others feel valued and capable, and his impact will be felt for years to come.

Tom believed deeply in giving back. He served as President of the James City County Rotary Club, was a member of the First Tee – Virginia Peninsula Board of Directors, and was a steady and generous supporter of Grove Christian Outreach Center in Williamsburg.

He was an avid sports fan who loved cheering on the Baltimore Orioles, UConn Huskies, and New York Giants. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, cooking, gardening, woodworking, attending concerts, and learning just about anything, from world history to good cuisine. Tom approached life with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a perspective he often summed up simply: “It’s all good.”

Tom’s personality was magnetic, and his positivity drew people in. He lived fully, loved deeply, and embraced every challenge with determination. A true fighter, Tom overcame cancer three times with unwavering strength and courage. He never accepted defeat, and in the end, he leaves behind a life that can only be described as a victory.

Above all, Tom was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, proud father and grandfather, cherished son and brother, loyal friend, and devoted dog dad. He is reunited in Heaven with his father, John William Shriver Jr., and three of his best friends, Pete Maxwell, Bob Gruber, and Bob Armstrong.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Shriver; his daughters, Lauren Curtis and Sarah Shriver Smothers; his granddaughters, Vivienne Curtis, Lela Smothers, and Lillian Curtis; his mother, Patricia Shriver; his siblings, Jack Shriver, Sue Long, and Chris Shriver; and his faithful dog, Rooney. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and his sons-in-law, Remick Smothers and Matthew Curtis, whom he loved dearly.
