William "Bill" Charles Rennagel, devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and veteran, went to his heavenly home on March 7, 2026. He was born June 3, 1942, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Colonel Harry G. Rennagel and Abbie N. Rennagel.
A 1966 graduate of the United States Military Academy, Bill earned a Master's degree in Political Science and a Ph.D. in International Relations from The Ohio State University. He served with the 82nd Division and 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, later transferring to Military Intelligence, and concluded his Army career at SHAPE in Belgium. He continued to serve his country at the Department of State and the Central Intelligence Agency, retiring in 1995.
Bill was deeply involved in the Masonic community, serving as Past Worshipful Master of Herndon Lodge, Past Worthy Patron of Herndon Chapter, Past Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Virginia, and supporting Kena Shrine, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and the Order of Amaranth.
Passionate about teaching and mentoring, Bill inspired students at the United States Military Academy, The Ohio State University, the Army War College, and the College of William and Mary. He loved sailing, soccer, and golf, often joking that he hoped there would be golf in Heaven--where he is surely already on the first tee, offering advice.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Jennifer Stout (Jeff) and Alison Spelbring (Chris); grandchildren, Justin, Samantha, Tyler, Brady, Hayden, and Natalie; his brother, Colonel Hank Rennagel; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held March 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, Virginia, with interment at Arlington National Cemetery.
