Bettie was born in Bay City on July 18, 1921 and passed away peacefully Christmas Eve morning in Willliamston, MI.
Bettie grew up in Bay City, MI and taught school in a one room schoolhouse after graduating from Junior College.
She married J. Paul Thorne while he was serving in the Army and lived in many locations, including New Jersey, New York, Missouri, and Hawaii. After active service, they moved to Bay City to raise their family and later became snowbirds, enjoying winters in Siesta Key, Florida and summers back in Michigan.
Bettie always found the good in everyone and was considered the favorite neighbor, aunt, friend, and even in assisted living; the favorite resident.
She was a great cook and loved preparing delicious meals for family and friends. A favorite quote was “I am part of all that I have met” by Alfred Lord Tennyson.
Bettie was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years J. Paul Thorne, her father Franklin Haag, mother Irene Beattie, son Robert (Bobby) Thorne, brother Herbert Haag and sister Helen Coats.
She is survived by son, David (Mary) Thorne of Midland, MI daughters, Barbara (Michael) Holz of Newton, MA and Paula (Alan) Weatherwax of Williamston, MI along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on May 6, 2016 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Williamston Chapel.
