Bradley M. Lockwood passed away suddenly at home on May 4, 2017, 1 month short of his 60th birthday. He wanted a surprise party and had been “hinting” at it for months. If he’d had his way, he would have invited all of you.
Brad was born on June 4, 1957, in Lansing, MI, and lived in Williamston, MI most of his life. He is survived by his wife Karen (Carroll) Lockwood and children Lyndsey, Alyssa, and Andrew, and brother Brian Lockwood. Brad was predeceased by his mother Delores (Albright) Lockwood and father Coral Lockwood. Brad was a graduate of Spring Arbor University (B.A., summa cum laude, 1978) and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (J.D., cum laude, 1981) and worked as an Attorney at Farhat & Story, P.C.
Brad was passionate about his work as an attorney. His focus on estate planning for over 30 years allowed him to build relationships with his clients and help them through difficult times in their lives.
Brad was also the worship pastor at Williamston Free Methodist Church. Music brought him great joy, whether it was blasting Boston on his car radio, pounding chords on the piano, or belting out a chorus at the top of his lungs with tears running down his face, his music ministry at Williamston Free was a highlight of his life. Those people he played music with in worship, which recently included his son, Drew, were a great blessing to his life.
Brad loved to laugh and make others laugh. He always had a joke or witty comment ready. He had an annoying habit of swapping the first letters of two words around so that the ‘kitchen sink’ became the ‘sitchen kink.’ This was especially funny with his friend Teri Hurd. He befriended everyone he crossed paths with and had a nickname for many. He could share stories of his shenanigans for hours at a time.
Family and friends of Brad are invited to attend the funeral service at Williamston Free Methodist Church, on Monday, May 8, at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive friends at the church on Sunday, May 7, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and at 10:00 a.m. on May 8.
Memorial contributions can be made, in lieu of flowers, to Teens for Christ Ministries or Covenant Hills Camp. Brad led Teens for Christ, a music and discipleship ministry to teens, for 13 years. The relationships he made with those teens reached into their adult years and he would often reunite or reconnect with them by taking them out to lunch or communicating through Facebook. He loved you all! Covenant Hills Camp is a special place to the family. Brad grew up going to church camp there every year and made lots of memories with special friends. Later, with his wife and children, camping at Covenant Hills became a July tradition. All 3 children were baptized in the lake there. He would love to have donations made to either of these 2 places.
The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman, Williamston Chapel. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.grwilliamston.com.
