John T. Mueller, 73, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at his home in Williamston, Michigan. Born August 11, 1943 to Henry and Hazel (Cain) Mueller, John was raised as a loving brother and son. He was a true gentleman; always humble and forever dependable. Throughout his life, John offered a sincere listening ear to those who needed to be heard. As a dedicated financial manager at General Motors for over 35 years, John greatly respected his colleagues who became valued friends. His love for high school football meant he was devoted to officiating games throughout Michigan for over 40 years. John and his crew spent many cold Friday nights together on the football field, and John considered all fellow crew members throughout the years part of his own family. He was a committed advocate for Catholic education, a proud supporter of Lansing Catholic High School and the University of Notre Dame. One of John’s greatest honors was ushering the Fighting Irish football games for 10 years. He considered fellow ushers as his “Irish” brothers.
John sought adventure through global travel, motorcycle trips, and seeking new experiences often with his children by his side. Most days were spent finding peace and fulfillment working on his farm and raising cattle in his business at Sherwood Family Farm. He treasured and respected the local farming community, considering his country life a little piece of ‘heaven’ on earth.
Above all, John was a loyal family man. His children were blessed with his unbounded love and exemplary values. He will be missed everyday by his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill Mueller.
Surviving John are his beloved children, Jodi Mahoney-VanZwoll (Chris VanZwoll), Kimberly Mueller (Alex Martin), Candice Mueller, and Scott (Shellie) Mueller; his nine grandchildren, Aaron, Quinn, and Colin Mahoney, Megan and Josh VanZwoll, Chase, Kiara, and Augustus Mueller, and Kate Martin; his four brothers, Joe, Martin, David, and Mike Mueller; his sister, Marsha Jones; and his lifelong special companion and mother of his children, Karen Mueller.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church, Williamston. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 2pm to 4pm, and from 6pm to 8pm at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Williamston Chapel, 205 E. Middle St., Williamston. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30pm.
