Thomas Edwin Pratt Jr. was born on July 11, 1936 in Lansing, Michigan and went to his heavenly home July 6, 2012, at the age of 75. Tom was the son of Thomas Sr. and Elizabeth (Schutz) Pratt. Tom attended St. Mary’s School, Lansing through his graduation.
Tom was a political newscaster his entire career. Tom began his career at WMRT Radio in Lansing, which later became WITL. He then went to WJR Radio in Detroit. Then he worked as the Capital Bureau Chief at WJBK Channel 2 Detroit, then to WDIV Channel 4 until the mid 80’s. He was a regular guest on “Off the Record” for over 25 years. He ended his career as Chief of Staff for Senator Douglas Carl. He was lovingly known to his precious grandchildren as “Bumpa.” Tom coached football at St. Mary’s and St. Casmir School in Lansing. Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Sr. and Elizabeth, and brother, Joseph Pratt. Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dotty, his daughters, Lori (Dave) Palazzolo, Collette (Bob) Palazzolo, Sarah (Thomas) Spangler, his sons, Christopher (Mary) Pratt, Thomas (Karen) Pratt, and John Daniel (Calise) Pratt, daughter-in-law, Teresa Pratt, along with 26 grandchildren, Aimee, Jason, Caroline, Tommy, Sylvia, Katonia, Matthew, Tracy, Anne, Kevin, Mary, Juan, Andy, Christopher, Elise, Angela, Josh, Joey, Emily, Jessica, Don, Jennafer, Molly, Justin, Johnny, Collette and17 great grandchildren, Madelyn, Eloise, Josiah, Tommy Jr, Lilly, Frank, Caiden, Casmir, Ruby, Erica, Gasper, Vinny, Anthony, Max, Kylie, Danica, Aimya, and brother John (Patty) Pratt.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Hospice House of Mid-Michigan for their tremendous care that was given to Tom.
The family will receive friends at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, Williamston Chapel, 205 E. Middle St. Williamston on Monday, from 5-7 with Rosary being prayed at 7p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 11a.m. July 10, 2012 at St Mary Catholic Church, 157 High St. Williamston, MI, with the Rev. Peter J. Clark, officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held following the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
