Eli "E H" Hoyt Manning Jr.

Eli Hoyt “E. H.”, Manning, Jr. of Williamston, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 28, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born in the Farm Life Community on June 9, 1925 recently celebrating his 89th birthday. He was the son of E.H. Manning, Sr. and Leda L Manning. Papa, as he was called by the family who loved him dearly, was married on November 13, 1948 to Lorene Rogerson. They shared a beautiful life together for 66 years. He lived a full and blessed life surrounded by the large family that they always welcomed including 5 children, 15 Grandchildren, and 17 great Grandchildren. E. H. was a WW II Veteran proudly serving his country. When he returned from the war, he married his sweet Lorene where he lived a life devoted to the family and community he loved. He loved farming, but driving a truck was his real passion. His friendly smile and warm handshake won him many friends along his hauling routes. He never met a stranger and never failed to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He always loved working with young people and was known for his many years as Scout Master for Farm Life Troop 302. A member of Macedonia Christian Church he served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was also the “chief” hot dog cooker for the churches wiener roasts and was known throughout the community for his delicious fried chicken .

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 5 children and their families, Jacquie Manning Ward, and husband Jack, Celia Manning Knox and husband Mitchell, Roger H. Manning, J. Wheeler Manning and wife Jeanie, William H. Manning and wife Greta all of Williamston, NC. There are 15 Grandchildren – Brian Ward and wife Twinkle, Michelle Mobley and husband, Alex, Craig Manning and wife Stephanie, Jonathan Ward and wife Dana Kevin Warren, Jamie Butler and husband, Garland, Hillary Manning, Megan Nicholson and husband James, Levi Manning, David Ward, Hollie Lilley and husband Matt, Michael Manning, Taylor Manning and wife Kayla, Korrie Manning, Caleb Manning – and 18 Great Grandchildren: Jasper Manning, Jordan Ward, Matthew Manning, Lynnsie Butler, Kassidy Ward, Brooke Butler, Maria Manning, Chase Ward, Kristen Green, A.J. Ward, Madi Butler, Brendan Mobley, Colby Nicholson, Kate Ward, Kenley Grace Lilley, Trenton Nicholson, MacKalya and Mackenzie Manning and our soon to arrive Ellie Manning. He is also survived by his two loving sisters, Susie Dowdy and Leda Faye Coltrain and husband Reg plus many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle “H”.

The family will receive friends at the Macedonia Christian Church Life Center on Wednesday night from 6-8:30 and other times at the home. The funeral will be 2:00 PM on Thursday at the Macedonia Christian Church and he will be buried in the Manning family cemetery in Farm Life.
