James Howard (Jimmy) Coltrain passed away on January 8, 2016 at Vintage Inn in Williamston, N.C. He was born April 21, 1937 in Martin County. Jimmy loved his church, Piney Grove Baptist, where he gave 75 years of faithful service. He loved his family, his friends, and riding his bike to the store for many years. He took great pride in being the “welcoming committee” at Vintage Inn. Jimmy fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. His caring spirit will be forever missed by his family and friends.
This world was a much better place with Jimmy in it and we know the Lord has welcomed him with open arms.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Daisy Coltrain and brother-in-law Dr. F. Lee Fussell, Jr.
Jimmy is survived by two sisters Joan Carol Fussell and Kay (Gary) Lilley; nephews Stephen Lee (Kathy) Fussell, Michael Howard Fussell, Craig Gary Lilley and Brian James (Leslie) Lilley; nieces, Deborah Fussell (Mike) Wilson, Patricia Lilley (Eric) Barfield; grandnieces Amanda (Wade) Moore, Alexis Wilson, Taylor and Emily Lilley and Kalee Barfield; grand nephews, Phillip (Amanda) Mountford, twins Killian and Conner Lilley and one great grandnephew, Kingston Moore.
The family will receive friends at Piney Grove Baptist Church from 12:30 to 1:45 P.M Monday, January 11, 2016 prior to the service Funeral Services at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Tice Cemetery.
Flowers accepted or contributions may be made in memory of Jimmy Coltrain to Piney Grove Baptist Church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the excellent care and compassion given to Jimmy and family by the staff of the Vintage Inn and Amedisys Hospice Care and to the many friends that visited him and sent cards, gifts, and snacks over the years.
