
Obituary of William Frederick “Fred” Hattem
Williamston, NC - William Frederick “Fred” Hattem of Williamston, NC, died peacefully in his sleep on January 21, 2016 after years of declining health. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia, but lived all of his life in Williamston. He was predeceased by his: mother, Magnolia Baker Greene; step-father, Aris Greene; father, Henry Hattem; brother, Henry Hattem, Jr.; brother-in-law, Al Allard and beloved canine companion, “Tootie Pop.”
The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016, at 2:00 pm in Williamston at Biggs Funeral Home Chapel followed by the burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service and other times at the residence.
Mr. Hattem served in the United States Air Force and was employed by Sherwin Williams as a store manager for 22 years. He was an avid clock collector and a master of clock restoration and repair. He was also a proficient banjo player and prior to his illness he loved playing bluegrass music with his friends.
Mr. Hattem is survived by his: devoted wife of 56 years, Alice O’Briant Hattem; son, Michael Brian Hattem and wife Amy Bailey Hattem of Greenville; granddaughter, Bailey Hattem Edwards and husband Doug of Greenville; sisters, Rose Allard of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Patsy Dougherty of Williamston; brother, Bobby Greene and wife Janice of Williamston.
