Gary was the beloved husband for thirty eight years to Linda (nee Mikkelson); devoted father of Brian; loving brother of Eric (Patty) Umphreyville, Diane (Tim) Crow, Lisa (Anna Brady) Sonricker and Carol (Bob) Siek; dear brother in law of Larry (Lise) Mikkelson and fond cousin of David (Colleen) Spencer. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Gary was born and raised in Williamsville, NY. He graduated from Williamsville South High School and attended Houghton College for a time as well as Erie County Community College where he graduated with an Associates Degree and then worked at the Buffalo Veterans Administration Hospital for 23 years as a Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician. Gary’s faith in his Savior Jesus Christ was pivotal to his life. He attended the Evangelical Covenant Church in Kenmore, NY as a child. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in college and attended Randall Baptist Church for many years. He then became a member of the Eastern Hills Church where he served with Linda on the Pastor’s Prayer Partners team and served as an usher. He also participated in the Men’s Ministry at Eastern Hills Church and was excited to organize and bring Charlie Alsheimer to speak at a Sportsman’s Dinner. Gary loved the outdoors and especially was proud to be a part of the Christian Bowhunters of America and advocated for the use of the crossbow in NY State. He loved hunting and fishing and spent many happy hours at his families’ cabin in the Southern Tier. While he faced health challenges throughout his life Gary was always up for another adventure traveling with family and friends. He enjoyed trips to Disney World and going on cruises with Linda and Brian and friends from The Hope Collection a nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Joel Griffing. Gary served with The Hope Collection for several years setting up the broadcast of the noon hour radio show and did a Bible Study of the book The Helper by Catherine Marshall with Joel. Gary was kind and generous always looking for ways to serve and help others. He will be missed deeply but we rejoice that one day we will be reunited in heaven.
