
Born in Buffalo, New York, on April 24, 1931 to parents Paul and Alpha (Ursitti) Creola, Marjorie was a mother, teacher, university administrator, lawyer, Erie County Family Court Judge and lifetime advocate for women and children.
She graduated from Kensington High School in 1949 and from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in English in 1953. She later obtained a Master’s degree in English, a doctorate in Higher Education and a Juris Doctorate from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she met David Frederick Mix (1931-2018), who became her husband of 64 years.
Marjorie was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and an accomplished needlepoint artist. Known for her intelligence and natural leadership skills, Marjorie was instrumental in founding the American Association of University Administrators in the 1960s and the Buffalo Women’s Group in the 1990s, one of her proudest accomplishments. Marjorie was pre-deceased by sisters Ruth Macdonald and Doris Schumacher.
She is survived by her four daughters: Jessica (David Mix Barrington), Kristen, Wende (Daniel Carlson) and Phoebe (Mark Sewall), seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Buffalo Yacht Club in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Valley Community Association Child Care Center.
