Patrick was always sharing, kind and very attentive to every ones needs. !!!Betty so enjoyed his company and they shared a long happy friendship. My strongest memories of meeting and knowing Mr. Hayes over some 40 years ago will always stay with me.  He was kind, gentle, friendly, and genuinely interested in people and what made them “tick.”  His keen concern and compassion for everyone he knew and met was sincere – never probing or intimating - but honest and real.  He consistently and considerately demonstrated his love, respect, and enjoyment of others.  I saw it firsthand because Mr. Hayes made me feel – as a teenager - valued, heard, special and important.  

He was a proud and understanding Dad, a loving and devoted son to his deaf parents, a loyal and steadfast friend, an excellent and polite conversationalist, and a humble gentleman with a sparkling sense of humor and sly wit.  He was authentic and unaffected before those became the buzzwords of today.  Mr. Hayes always made others feel treasured and that they had something worthwhile to contribute to any conversation or situation.  His smiling eyes and one-of-a-kind spirit will stay with me forever. 
 
Years ago, when we met again, he hadn’t changed one bit.  Still true, still sweet, still smiling and always happy to greet a friend, even from long ago.

How perfect that memorials in his name are going to our beloved Sisters of St. Joseph, who are responsible for introducing me to this compassionate, kindhearted, and benevolent man, and his son, James, who is a reflection of all his goodness.

Dale Carnegie said, “You can make more friends in two months by being interested in other people than in two years of trying to get people interested in you.”  I think he was talking about Patrick J. Hayes.

Jim, my deepest sympathy to you at this difficult time.  You gave him so many reasons to be proud.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.




My sincere condolences to the Hayes family. Patrick was a much loved member of the St Mary's community and will be greatly missed.

I worked with him at PJSchmitt a rare and wonderful person.

I just found out this moment, so I am in a state of despair.  I moved  from New York City to Williamsville the last quarter of 2000 and met Patrick while buying yellow roses for my mother's birthday at "Flowers From the Courtyard."  He was my first new friend in Western New York and my absolute dearest one for the past 21 years. We dined often at "The Eagle House;" we exchanged gifts for birthdays and every Christmas, I gave him artwork from my late mother, we both enjoyed writing and shared many email 'conversations' on every subject imaginable. Patrick called me on Thanksgiving (Nov 25) to share the day and we chatted for a good two hours. This man and his kindness, thoughtfulness, intelligence, charm, and joie de vie...unparalleled.

Pat was like family, in fact I was 2o years old when I found out Frank and Lil(Pat's Mom & Dad) were not my aunt and uncle just good Family friends. Pat was a kind and gentle soul. He loved people and parties  Pats Grandmother and mine were sisters, I will miss Pat and will share wonderful  memories of Pat with  my family.

To say that Rick and I are saddened by this news is such an un understatement! Pat’s mother and father, Frank and Lillian, were my parents (Russell and Stella Martina) best friends and Pat was a dear friend of ours. We spent many an evening together visiting and watching operas! His sharp intellect, artistic talent and wonderful sense of humor could not be surpassed! His memory will live in our hearts and our deepest sympathies are extended to his family. 

Pat's zest for life and laughter seemed endless ...so the announcement of his passing took me by surprise. My sympathy to the entire family on the loss of this incredible human . Pat and I became immediate pals through the Dale Carnegie class where we both worked as assistants to the instructor, C. Deakin, in 1985. Surely ,C. Deakin was waiting at heavens gate with a refreshment for Pat. We shared many magical moments over lunches and dinners when I lived in Buffalo. Pat sat at a restaurant waiting hours for me  to arrive once but I had gone into labor and forgot to call! We always chuckled over that missed lunch in 1994. His storytelling was a gift to all in our Dale Carnegie classes . The story about him playing Santa at the School for the Deaf  was the one that I will always remember . He had convinced a young deaf boy that Santa was indeed deaf too. As only Pat could do,  he touched hearts and brought light wherever he went. We were working in class together the night Nicole was born and Pat could barely speak due to his sheer delight over becoming a grandfather. So many of his stories  were about family and how proud he was of you all. Our crazy night in hats, dancing at my wedding and field trips to Niagara on the Lake will always be close to my heart. Rest in peace my dear friend. Your friendship was a cherished gift.  I hope you know just how much you were adored and will be missed.
