Ashley, I'm so sorry for your loss. I unfortunately know how hard it is to have your dad in heaven. You and our family have been in my prayers. I have only good memories of your dad. Even though he was the strong silent type of a man; I have always known he loved me very much as his goddaughter. He made me laugh with every conversation.  My brother and I always looked forward to his jokes during our summer visits to Buffalo as kids. He was the fun uncle! Please know I am always here to support you. One of my earliest memories of Russell was going to Jacobi's for a fish fry on Abbott road with my girlfriend now my wonderful and beautiful wife, June, their Mom, "Nan"  and of course Russell.

Loving and merciful God, we entrust our brother to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life; now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace for ever. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Born July 26, 1956, in Sendai, Japan, Russell was the beloved son of Jeanette Barbara (Snyder) Mitchell and Russell Charles Mitchell. Russell's life was marked by love and kindness, as he built lasting relationships with family, friends, and colleagues. Russell proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his service he worked at City Honors School in Buffalo, NY. Russell embraced life's joys with enthusiasm and an extremely witty humor. Russell is survived by his beloved sisters: Jean Siegel (wife of the late Lawrence Siegel), Jill Desmond, and June Howland (wife of Arthur Howland). He is also lovingly remembered by Jean’s children - Laura Siegel, Lana Siegel (significant other Curtis), and Lawrence Siegel Jr. (husband of Shonda); Jill’s children - Fran Desmond, Chris Desmond (husband of Sara), and Matt Desmond (husband of Amber); and June’s children - Yvette Lyons (wife of Keith), Carissa Howland, Blane Howland, and Leighann Howland. Russell is also survived by daughter Ashley. Russell will forever be remembered for his humor, resilience, and kindness, through the memories he shared and values he upheld.

My Uncel Russell. He enjoyed learning the guitar and I loved showing him how to play it. He loved music with me and talking about animals and his dogs. He made every birthday of mine and the holidays feel very special. No matter what in the world around him I love that he always brought a calmness and peace wherever he went. 

Psalm 89:37  "It shall be established forever like the moon, and the witness in the heavens is ever faithful."

Uncle Russell had an impact on many lives. He was a son, a brother to three sisters, a father, a uncle to many, and a friend to many. He was a kind, thoughtful, and hardworking man. I always looked forward to see him when he came to visit for holidays and special occasions. I am so thankful for during the time I got to know him even more when he came to live with me. He would wait up until I came home from work and he would tell me stories from his life. We would talk about the Buffalo Bills, his many jobs and adventures, and more. May he rest in peace in the arms of God. I love you Uncle Russell 💙, your niece Carissa

My Uncle Russell was not only a very hard working man, but loved family, and put family first. You would never have a dull moment with him, he was so positive and always had a joke or way to make people laugh. Uncle Russell would always be there for family events and on the holidays, or whenever he could, he loved family very much, and so did all the people around him. He will be missed very much by many. Rest in peace, Love Blane Jr.
