I’m so saddened to see an obituary for Vinnie Lorigo. My husband, Jim, and I shopped at the Meating Place back in 2004 for a couple of years when we lived on Greenwood Pl. .  Jim loved going to “Vinnie’s” because he was so attentive, (and so Italian), so friendly to us, always acknowledged us. 
It’s so heartbreaking when someone who is so loved is taken from us.  He deserved a nice, long life. He worked so hard. 
Condolences to his loved ones.

I was a customer at The Meating Place and Vinny always greeted me with a beautiful smile. One of his employees had a mom in Roswell hospital and the customer and I were talking about our encounter at Roswell where I was also a patient and Vinny let me know that he was in remission and we talked about how we needed to keep busy, and we had caring conversations always even before he knew I was also a survivor it just became more personal and the fact that he hadn’t seen me in about 3 months when he saw me he still knew who I was and ask me where I’d been and how I was doing and he hadn’t forgotten my name

I stopped in the meating place today and just found out about vinny, I have been stopping in there from time to time over the last 15 years and every time I did vinny would always say hello and go out of his way to make me feel like a valued customer as he did with all his customers, every time I left there I said to myself that is a nice man, I will miss him, RIP vinny

Vincent took excellent care of his customers, always filling their orders with extra care.  I truly will miss him. My prayers go out to his family.  

One of the best butchers is gone and we are heart broken.  “What can I get you Richard & Mary”  will always echo in The Meating Place when we go shopping at The Lorigo’s.  Everyone had a job to do and Vinny was a true gentleman at the meat counter with his staff on the busiest of days.  Why he was taken at such a young age and never got to enjoy retirement isn’t the way it should be.  2020 has not been a good year with hearing more  sad news like this.  Prayers to Jim & Joe and the entire Lorigo family and Meating Place staff.   Rest In Peace Vinny.  You will be truly missed.  Heaven has gained another Angel from The West Side. Vincent was truly a good man who will be missed. When you walked into the store he always greeted everyone with a smile and asked how you were doing. If you had not been there in awhile he ask if you were doing  good. Always willing to help you, if he did not have something you wanted he would get it for you. A man who cared about people and the community. A very fine quality not everyone has. Our prayers go out to his family. My wife and I are so heartbroken by your departure. Your work ethic combined with your smile made it an easy decision to travel from Marion NY to Buffalo to purchase our meats. Vincent will be missed by so many , he treated everyone with so much respect. even when you knew he was busy he always took that little bit of time to chat . For my husband and I it's not going to feel right going in the store an not seeing his big smile !

I just met Vinny  this summer, and whenever I walked into see his Father Jimmy he was always working hard behind the front Deli/meat counters and always said hello to me with a smile as he was preparing food for the customers and seemed to know them by their names.  Vincent would be talking to each one while workingh hard with his same smiling face especially through this terrable disease.    He still worked with all his discomfort, pain and suffering.   

He was a very uniquie and hard working person and he will be missed by so many.

My deepest condolences to your family! The community lost another great one! My Dad would tell me to go see Vinny for dinner and he would take care of it! I came in and said where's Vinny? He would say who's asking and I would say Chi-Chi's daughter.  And everything was taken care of. All of my prayers and strength go to Jimmy and his whole family in this very difficult time! You will be missed dearly by us.  You were mire family then our butcher. It was always nice to hear your voice and see tour smile. In the 23 yrs we went the store hw always called me Marie no mattet how many times. I corrected him. But he knew who I was and what i was getting. I met though my husband Michael who loved Vinny like family . He showed him how to properly slice a roast. Vinny you will missed dearly .  the Sanfilippo family loves you dearly . RIP Vinny


I did not know Vinny very well, but I remember how he greeted everyone.  A big friendly smile.  I would hear him talking and laughing with his customers and he called them by name.  

He was a special person and he will be missed by so many.

Where did all years go.  We were inseparable from 1st grade thru high school.  The Lorigo family adopted me at our years at  Coronation,  Mrs. Lorigo always had lunch for us since we didnt have a gym or lunchroom.  Vinny, i did not see you as much as i should have.  You were my bud, we took care of each other.  I realish our memories, street hockey, football and tacos on grant street.  Rest in peace my friend save a spot for me on heavens basketball court. My condolences to the whole family for your precious and great loss of your Son, Husband, Excellent Father,  Papa, Uncle, Cousin, Friends and Customers! My family became part of your family when our father (Robert H) worked side by side the Lorigo family members at the Meeting Place on West/Delavan. My family has great memories of those days and today we reflected back on them with tears of love, laughter,  and smiles. Each time we walked into the store we were always greeted with kind hellos and welcoming smiles. Vinney will always be remembered by his special smile, caring heart, kindness, and great meal ideas. Vinny was truly a beautiful man. Always happy to see you and treated you like family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We would not have opened our deli  without him ,along with Frank Albanese, who we will also miss very much. The loss of these two will change the landscape of the west side. May God bless all the family and friends who mourn.

I don't know where to start.1977 I landed a Job with the Lorigo Family.West and West Delavan.I was Treated like 1 of the Family.I learned much about Meat Cutting.Prep for Restaurants, Sausage Making, every Olive in the world etc.Vinny was a Huge Part of my Training.Always Patient with ME and TRULY Cared about ME and others that Worked there.I Will Miss Vinny Dearly! My Dear, dear friend Vinny.  His contagious smile,  his stories made connections to all of us.  When ever I would stop by the Meating Place, he would break open a loaf of Luigi's bread  and cut up some fresh coldcuts and make us a sandwich . It wasn't missed called the  meeting place by default! He's was the best of making friends into family. A true Westsider caring for his  customers and community, We dedicated his love to his family and friends. A trait that has been passed down through generations.(Thank you Vinny and Maryann). God has blesses us with such an amazing person. I pray that his love and comfort encourages us to love one and other in these trying times. Thank you Vinny for all the memories.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Lorigo family. The West Side has lost a treasure. Vinny spoke our language when it came to Italian cooking. He knew exactly how I liked my Braciole and the perfect  temperature  to cook that rib roast. One day I was picking up my order and asked Vinny for two slices of liver wurst. He said “what are you going to do with two slices?”  I told him I was so hungry I was going to eat in my car. Vinny went upstairs and came down with a hunk of bread from his lunch. He made me that liver wurst sandwich then apologized for not having any mustard. That wasn’t customer service. That was customer love! I can only imagine how many of these stories are being shared with Vinny’s family. May they bring some comfort and perhaps even a smile.

Vinny was one of my closest friends from kindergarten to 8th grade as we attended the same catholic grammar school and lived on the same block of our beloved Bird Avenue. Even though as adults our life paths led us in different directions and our contact was infrequent when I would see him he always greeted me with a warm smile as we shared the stories and memories of our youth.  I offer my sincere condolences to Vinny's wife and children and to the Lorigo family.  Rest easy my friend.

I will never forget the way Vinny would ways give my baby girl Allyson a huge wedge of Parmagian cheese. She loved to just eat ot like that. He was like family to us. We looked forward to seeing him. He treated my children as his nieces. He will be extremely missed.

How is the family, your mom?  and always so genuine when he asked, he was such a great guy when he found out that my mom was in the hospital ,and I told him that my mom was said that she was gonna miss his Italian sausage  because she could  not have high salt  in her diet vinny offered to make my mom a special sausage with out the cheese and salt and sure enough he did and she loved it. I will always remember what a kind, sweet and hard working man he was I will truly miss him and I believe anyone who was honored to have meet him feels the same RIP Vinny you will truly be missed 🙏🏻My condolences. to you and your family 

I always looked forward to my weekly interactions with Vinny; definitely one of the highlights of my week.  No matter the chaos around him, he always greeted me by name with a smile and asked about the kids even if he wasn’t waiting on me. 

He always took time to share his culinary and butchery knowledge and wisdom with me which greatly improved my own skills and helped me to bring joy to those I welcomed into my home to break bread. 

I am blessed to have known Vinny.  The West Side has lost a treasure.

Over the years we have the most respect and care he gave to us, when we visited the store when we lived in Buffalo area, and even after we moved to different parts of the United States. We came back frequently to visit the Stango relatives  and my family in in Lancaster. 
Vinnie was always ready to stop whatever he was doing to relive the old times and give us the happenings in the area when I  visited.  We always had to get our supplies of good Italian products and take them back to our far away places.

This is such sad news.  I "discovered" the Meating Place about 10 years ago, and have bought my meat there ever since.  I was so impressed with Vinny when he called me by name shortly after I started shopping there.  He always had time to explain cuts of meat to me and how best to cook them, and willingly took care of special orders for holidays.  Vinny will be sorely missed.

We send our deepest condolences to the Lorigo family. Vinny was a one of a kind guy. He was always there to listen or give you the best advice he could. He will surely be missed, but God has him in his care now and he will be looked after. 

I first met Vinnie when I was a very young child. My mother and I or my grandfather and I would come into the Meating Place every week and we would do our shopping but we would also stop and chat with Vinnie. He was always so good to people and he would remember everyone. I had moved out of the West Side for several years, grew up, and came back and Vinnie still recognized me on sight. "Victoria! How's your mom? How's your grandpa?" It always brought a smile to my face. It seemed like everyone who had lived on the West Side knew Vinnie. He was a very kind man and I send my deepest condolences to the Lorigo family. 

Our sincerest condolences to the Lorigo family Vinnie was a top notch guy, always a kind conversation and there to offer helping hand of any kind.  Grant St & The Meating Place will not be the same without his smile.  I am truly  grateful to have met Vinnie some 30+ yrs ago & Proud to call him a friend to All .

Vinny was the best representation of an Italian I know. A family man ,hard-working man ,business owner & a friend to all. He always had a smile on his face it was always happy to see any of his customers. He treated everybody with respect and was very proud of his Italian heritage. He will be sadly missed and a very hard person to be replaced. I will always miss you Vinny ! God bless you!
