Agathe Enique Exumé

Our beloved mother, Agathe Enique Exumé, 94 years young, Vernon Hills, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026, surrounded by family members. Born on April 3, 1931, in Fond-des-Blancs, Haiti to Vatel and Celise Bernadel. Agathe was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She was the definition of strength and resilience. She was our anchor, our guide and inspiration, teaching us to face challenges with courage and compassion. Her life was a blessing, her memory is a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.

Agathe leaves behind to cherish her memories, her five loving children: Frances Exumé-Bitoy, Elisabeth Schmeling (Gene R. Schmeling), Patrick J. Exumé, Manouchka Exumé-Mercer (Frank Mercer, III), and Jean Joseph Abner Exumé, Jr.; her sister: Viltine Jean; her nine grandchildren: Jennifer F. Bitoy, Jonathan R. Schmeling (Jude Schmeling), Domnique C. Exumé (David G. Michael), Nathaniel C. Schmeling, Troy Thorns, Natasha E. Schmeling, Francesca M. Mercer, Tori Thorns, Frank Mercer, IV; and her two great-grandchildren: Rosie and Leo. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jean Joseph Abner Exumé; her brothers: Henock Bernadel and Ernest Bernadel.

The wake will be held at William H. Scott Funeral Home, 1100 Greenleaf Avenue, Wilmette, IL 60091, on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church (St. John XXIII Parish), 806 Ridge Avenue, Evanston, IL 60202.

Entombment: Mausoleum, Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Road, Skokie, IL 60076

A repast will be held at Maggiano’s Little Italy Restaurant, 4999 Old Orchard Center, Skokie, IL 60077 following the memorial service for family and friends.
