Dorothy Barbara English Shaffer, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, was born in Montreal, Canada on December 25, 1932, the fifth child of Bennett English and Sarah Shaw English. She was raised in Ottawa, Canada, after which she moved to Chicago in 1954 to marry Aaron Benjamin Shaffer, a cardiologist, who passed away in 1992. She celebrated her Bat Mitzvah as an adult and had a long affiliation with Ezra-Habonim, the Niles Township Hebrew Congregation. Dorothy is survived by her two children, Brian Shaffer (Rachel Markovitz) and Susan (Jeff) King, and four grandchildren, Hannah, Ruthie, Jack, and Zylah. Dorothy, who lived in the same home in Skokie for 50 years, passed away in Memphis on September 18, 2024.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 22, 2024 11:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Rd, Skokie, IL 60076.
