My name is Eugene Elysee 

Gary and I became good friend.  We met at American Airlines while we worked in the International Security Department.  We had numerous common interests including meeting our respective right woman.  At work, he helped me with German as I help him with his French.

We visited several cities either with groups colleagues or just the 2 of us: Paris,  Barcelona, Nice, Miami,  Santiago, Milan, Cabos Tokyo.  In Paris, served as his tour guide; in Tokyo he returned me the favor.

We were part of the group that went out once a month to eat, dance and /or play.  I believe that Gary was the one who introduced us to a German bar named MiriMaribel on Addison.

Gary was always very enthusiastic about social events such as 12-Bars of Winter/Summer and company’s holiday parties.  That’s why the holiday season that just passed brought him to mind a lot.

But my friends, from my vantage point, I think that the C.E.S. (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas is one yearly event that was a must do for Gary; and again that’s another annual event that will make me miss him.

He was a good guy and he was proud to have on the marching band at UIUC.



Kazumi, this is John Wash. I had the pleasure of coaching with Gary when my son Evan was on the team during the 10 and 11U seasons. First I would like to express my deepest condolences to you, Kai, Sean and the rest of your family. Gary was a man of few words but when he spoke he had the presence to command everyone's attention. That shows the respect the boys and also the coaches had for him. I would especially love when opposing coaches would go on a rant and Gary would step in and say a few words, some not so pleasant, and it would shut that coach down. It would make me chuckle. It showed the fire and passion that he had for the team and his willingness to step  up and be an advocate for those boys. Just know that he has left a great legacy in Sean and Kai. It is obvious that you'll raised two respectful, kind young men and I know that he will still be a proud  dad watching and fighting for them in all their future endeavors. Again, my sincerest condolences Kazumi and my families' prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

I hadn't seen Gary in many years — probably not much since college — but I remember him as a guy with a huge sense of humor and a real joyfulness.  From the picture posted here, I gather he never lost his boyish impishness.  This news of his passing is a huge shock.  I heard nothing about his illness.  I hope he didn't suffer much.  And I hope his sense of humor and joyful spirit shone through until the end.  My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. Alav hashalom.

Gary was such a kind and humorous person. I remember his pencil twirling he always like to do with his hand. I had the pleasure of training and working with him at American Airlines International dept. at O’hare.

I am so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. I worked with him at American Airlines at Ohare in the International Department. We were all one big/little happy family. He was such a humorous, caring, super nice man. He would help anyone. He had such a quick witt. He will be truly missed.
