Herbert Decker Jr.

Herbert Decker Jr, born on February 12, 1929 in Chicago, IL, drifted peacefully away on September 7, 2025. He was the son of Herbert Decker Sr. and Helen Selz Decker, brother of the late Robert Selz Decker, brother-in-law of the late Celia Gross Decker, and uncle of Robert Selz Decker Jr, Mary Decker, Carmen Tuzzolino, and the late Dorothy Tuzzolino.

Herb was a self-confirmed bachelor, until he met the love of his life Paula Segal. Together they shared 17 years of happiness and endless laughter. These years were shared as one family with Paula's wonderful children Jill and Dana, and grandchildren, Amanda, Eden and Alex.

Herb, a true Chicagoan, graduated from Senn High School and Knox College. He served in the Army during the Korean War. His career spanned years in business as the president of Herbert Decker Association, and president of Housewares Club of Chicago.

An avid reader, Herb was also a sports enthusiast of all kinds but could best be found either on the golf course with his friends or watching golf at home. In fact, he was a treasured, long-time (83 years!) member of Northmoor Country Club affectionately known as "Mr. Northmoor". Herb and Paula are also members at The Seagate Country Club, Twin Orchard Country Club, and High Ridge Country Club.

Herb lived a long, healthy, independent life, with lots of laughs and great dinners, but more importantly desserts. He was a kind and caring man, who will be most remembered as a fun "good guy" who loved living life. We hope there are infinite ice cream sundaes waiting for him in heaven.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, 12:00 - 3:00 PM at Northmoor Country Club, 820 Edgewood Rd, Highland Park, IL 60035. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
