James Stanton Lewis, 91, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on August 13 at his home in Winnetka. Preceded in death by his son Edward J. Lewis II (Jacqueline), his remaining loving family include his wife of 68 years, Helen Jasper Lewis, son John (Elisabeth), and five grandchildren, Sam, Margot, Dana, Erica and Madeline.
Jim was born in Chicago on September 15, 1931, the third son of Edward J. Lewis and Edith Lewis. He attended Northwestern University where he met Helen. They moved out of Chicago and raised their children in Wilmette, where Jim was an active coach in many youth sports teams. He was an incredibly dedicated father, somehow finding time amidst starting and running a very successful chemical manufacturing business with his partner Tom Silberman. Their company Chemical Systems was founded in 1964, and thrived until it was sold to British firm Brent Chemical almost 30 years later. Jim worked for Brent for the next three years to help in the transition of the business.
A private funeral was held. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, September 9, 2023, 1:00 - 2:30 PM at Northmoor Country Club, 820 Edgewood Road, Highland Park, IL 60035.
