
Jay Arthur Schiller, Jr., age 85. Devoted father of Beth (Ray) Biondo, Jeanne (Mac) Brenz and Janet (Larry) Chapman; loving grandfather of Jay Arthur (Holly) Biondo, Abigail (Trevor) Hash, Katherine (Travis) Erny and Eric, Ryan and Kevin Chapman; doting great-grandfather of Logan and Lyla Hash and Autumn and Brooke Erny; companion of Nancy Barton. Jay attended Brown University and graduated from DePaul Law School where he was one of the founders of the DePaul Law Review. He began his career in the States Attorney's office before entering private practice. He was a prominent LaSalle Street attorney who was most notably involved in the landmark Escobedo case as well as saving the Chicago Theatre from demolition in the early 1980's. Jay was involved in Illinois government and politics serving as Special Counsel to Governor Ogilvie. He also played a senior role in Ogilvie's re-election campaign and was a Republican fundraiser. Jay was a supporter of The Better Boys Foundation, the Red Cross and the Israeli Bond program. He was the co-owner of the Clayton House motel chain. Jay was an excellent all around athlete as he was the Captain of Latin High School's football, basketball and baseball teams. He was a scratch golfer and once won the golf championship at Briarwood Country Club. Memorial services, Tuesday, November 18, 2014, 10 am at Weinstein Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL 60091, 847-256-5700, followed by inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jay's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
