

Jonathan Arthur Bollo was born on March 27, 1976, in Evanston, Illinois, and passed away on the Feast of the Assumption, August 15, 2025, in Chicago. Known to many as ‘Jon,’ ‘Bollo,’ and ‘JonBollo,’ he was an artist, teacher, musician, writer, and historian. He loved all animals, especially his beloved cats, Coco and Stokely, as well as other animals he cared for and protected including Toby, Emily, Suki, Misha, Monk, Nico, Nacho, Finn, Tazo, and Whidbey.
Jon was best known for his kindness and hugs. He treated every person he met with the utmost respect. He was fascinated by other people’s stories and was a great listener and storyteller himself. Jon leaves a legacy of numerous paintings and sculptures, and of lifelong friendships and memories. His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him and enjoyed his sense of humor and thoughtfulness.
Jonathan is survived by his loyal friends, as well as: his mom, Marcia Maus Bollo of Evanston, and his father, Nicholas Bollo (Anna), of San Francisco; his sister, Christina Bollo, and sister-in-law, Betsy Hunter, of Oregon; his uncles and aunts, Bill Maus, David Maus, Pat Austin, and Marilyn Bollo; and many cousins.
The funeral was held at St. Joseph’s Church in Wilmette on August 20, 2025. The grave is at Rosehill Cemetery, Section V; (https://maps.app.goo.gl/coFYAuZV9KjmoMWu5). A celebration of Jon’s art and life will be held Sunday, September 21, from 3-9 PM at Color Club Tavern Room, 4146 N Elston Ave, Chicago, IL 60618.
