Dear Aaron and Mathew,
I remember our days in the "army". Your mom was my rock. I was having a very difficult time and Joyce helped me thru it. When we left the army for Kansas  Joyce and I lost touch, but once settled in Hamilton Ohio we found each other and had maintained our close friendship until her death. I used to come to Chicago every year and would time it to be the same weekend of the American Craft show. I always loved coming to visit in Evanston. In fact I always said I'd love to live in Evanston.  My news to you is that I'm moving to Evanston's The Merion Sr.  Independent Living facility. Oh how I wish Joyce and I could enjoy the town together. I hope if you return to Evanston that you'll look me up.

I am beyond being remiss in writing as it is the end of February, 2022. Nonetheless,  I hope this gets to you, Matthew and Aaron, despite its lateness. Jim and I moved to the Mather in June, 2019 from our home on Sheridan, a block from yours. Joyce was living in the Life Centre by then. I saw her a couple of times but there didn't seem to be any recognition. I then fell, had fractures & spent 5-6 weeks at end of 2019 in the Life Centre. I had some renewed contact with her including a lengthy conversation where she remembered a lot. It was lovely. Then COVID came, & I couldn't visit. I remember Joyce in better days as being very warm and very bright. We remember Harry as well. I was prompted by a recent memorial service here. Our best to both of you. Rita Sheinin

When I see Joyce in my mind’s eye,
I see my beautiful cousin, with a smile on her face, and her eyes filled with happiness. She engages me immediately with her eyes.
When I was a young boy we would go to Ella‘s every year for the Seder. And the first thing I would do would be to go in Joyce’s bedroom, which I found fascinating because  of the photos and posters and memorabilia she would bring back every year from Paris. I was amazed that my cousin was flying in airplanes to and from Paris every year to study at the Sorbonne. This was an exotic thing to do in the mid-1950s.

Joyce will always remain in my mind and in my heart as  a loving , beautiful, funny and enthusiastic woman, continuing Ella’s tradition of having a large Seder for the family at that beautiful  warm home in Evanston. I remember the wedding of Matthew and Susan in her summer garden ,in full bloom that warm and sunny day, filled with happy and laughing and celebrating family and friends. One of many beautiful memories she created.

Joyce will always be missed and always with us.

Joyce Was married to my mother’s cousin, Harry. Although my family and I live in Israel we were in close touch with Joyce and Harry and through the years met and spend time together several times. Those visits seem magical now that I think about them..Joyce was such a warm, kind,  sweet person, with a big smile on her face and sparkling eyes. She was interested in so many things and it was so easy and fun to talk with her. I’ll always remember her generous hospitality and they’re beautiful home on the lake. 
Joyce will always be in my heart and I will miss her, I feel fortunate to have met her and for the time we had together. 

Joyce was my friend in the deepest sense of the word: loyal, accepting, caring, a good listener and an honest feisty guide and confidante,  a steady companion over fifty years of life adventures. I smile at the memory of her riding her moped to teach at North Shore. She will always be in my heart.
