Marcy Wiener, nee Leeds, 65, of Chicago, lost her battle with cancer at her home on May 26, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. She was a beloved wife to Jerome (Jerry) Wiener, a loving mother to Jacob Wiener, and a dear sister to Arthur Leeds. Marcy also cherished her role as aunt to the children of Bill and Louisa Wiener: Kimberly (John) Schink, Laura (Eric) Harlan and Gregory (Zuzi) Wiener and was generous with her love of their children. Her mother, Rose Leeds, precedes Marcy in death.
Marcy was born and raised in Rogers Park and graduated from Senn High Schol in 1970. She went on to pursue a BA degree in Special Education at the University of Illinois/ Champaign and a Master's Degree at the University of Kansas (KU). Her passion and determination, and her love of travel brought her overseas to teach special needs children living on U.S. Military Bases in Iceland, England, and Japan. Upon her return to Chicago, Marcy dedicated her career to teaching special needs children in the Chicago Public School district. She married Jerome (Jerry) in 1989 and they began their family a year later with the birth of their son, Jacob (Jake). After her retirement in 2012, Marcy continued teaching on a part-time basis, at St. Hilary School in Chicago where she was a beloved staff member.
Marcy's life was filled with an abundance of friends whom she treasured and loved unconditionally. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and meaningful way and she did that through her loyalty, her honesty, and her humor. Marcy embraced life in every way, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her husband Jerry and her son Jake. The three of them loved to travel, spend time in Michigan, play golf, go to museums and concerts, see Broadway musicals and explore Chicago, the city she loved.
Marcy also gave her time and compassion to multiple non-profit organizations over the course of her life, including Planned Parenthood and the Northwestern Medicine Thoracic Oncology Advisory Council. Her genuine desire to help others and to foster positive change was important to Marcy, and served as an inspiration to all who knew her.
Funeral services for Marcy will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2018, 1 PM, at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette. Interment Rosehill Cemetery. The family asks that all donations be made to the Northwestern Medicine Thoracic Oncology Program, http://foundation.nmh.org/lungcancer.
