

Morrie Much passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on July 28, 1938, to the late Sam and Helen Much, he grew up as the youngest of 3 siblings (the late Jerry Much and the late Sarah Kanter) on the South Side of Chicago. He attended Hyde Park High School where he was voted Mr. Hyde Park in 1955 A talented track & field athlete, he held the Illinois state record for shot-put for decades and he was the captain of the football team. He attended the University of Illinois and was a proud member of the Tau Epsilon Pi (TEP) fraternity. Following college, he attended the University of Chicago Law School where he graduated in the top 10 of his class. After years working at one of Chicago’s top law firms, Morrie started Much Shelist, with the late Michael Shelist, in 1970. Revered for his friendly disposition, brilliant legal mind for real estate and tax shelter transactions, and inspirational leadership, Morrie helped to build the firm into the powerhouse that it is today (now known as Much Shelist) . In 2005 he was chosen by Crain’s Chicago Business as one of the top real estate lawyers in the city. Morrie was an ace golfer and cherished his time on the course at Twin Orchard Country Club and loved playing during the winter in Rancho Mirage, CA. He also loved the outdoors and enjoyed river rafting trips with his children to places such as Alaska, Wyoming, Costa Rica and California.With his love of Israel and deep pride in his Jewish faith, Morrie dedicated himself to Jewish causes such as helping to support the launch of HonestReporting.com, the building of the Holocaust Museum in Skokie, and the Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. He was also a strong supporter of the JUF and Israel Bonds. Morrie married the love of his life, the late Janet Greenfield Much, in 1959, who passed away in January 2025. He is survived by his children Elizabeth Much (Steve Muller), Katherine Lipschutz (Todd Lipschutz), Lawrence Much (ex-wife Marci Much), and grandchildren Jared Much, Devyn Much, Audrey Lipschutz and Marissa Lipschutz. Morrie’s warmth, generosity and sense of humor will be missed forever. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
