Nancy Lou Bochan, 85, passed away on Monday, May 19, after a brief illness. Loving mother of Denise Solomon Siuda (Keith Siuda); doting grandmother (“bubbie”) of Matthew and Benjamin Polster; beloved daughter of the late James “Sonny” Bochan and Clarice Colitz Bochan; fond sister of the late Louis Bochan; cherished niece of the late Ira Colitz, James Colitz, Ivan “Bunny” Colitz, Elaine Colitz Hanock (Sol), and Viola Colitz Stein (Maury); treasured niece of Corrine Bochan Eichner (Norman); adored great-niece of the late Esther Dolly Kritzberg Kurtz; and dear cousin of Carolyn Eichner (Kennan Ferguson), Susan Eichner (Thomas Considine), and Tess Eichner Considine.
Nancy lived a life dedicated to family and knowledge. Deeply involved with her daughter Denise and grandsons Matt and Ben, Nancy was also the lynchpin between generations, keeping alive the memories of her parents’ and grandparents’ worlds.
Born on February 24, 1940, Nancy grew up amidst her extended family, first on Chicago’s old Jewish West Side, then on the north side in Rogers Park. They spent summers first in South Haven, Michigan, and then in Miami Beach, her favorite place. A graduate of Senn High School, Nancy later worked for Cook County. An avid reader, she had an exceptional memory. She was especially fascinated by and knowledgeable about Chicago and Jewish history, old Hollywood, and gemstones. Nancy was loyal, funny, passionate, and firm in her convictions. Her love, intelligence, and humor shone throughout her years. She will be profoundly missed.
Graveside services were held on Sunday, May 25, at 12:30 p.m. at Jewish Waldheim Cemetery, Forest Park (Gate #1). Arrangements by Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 847-256-5700.
