

Born on May 28, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, Phyllis developed a love of art early in life. After high school, she pursued her passion by studying art for a year, beginning a lifelong creative journey. She found great joy in sculpting and in expressing herself through her work.
Phyllis dedicated much of her life to her family as a loving mother and homemaker. She also worked part-time as a bookkeeper and gave generously of her time as a volunteer. A committed supporter of ORT, she took pride in contributing to her community.
She was the beloved wife of the late Philip Lapin, who passed away on June 30, 2022. They were married for 59 years and shared a life filled with love and partnership. In their later years together, she and Philip enjoyed traveling the world, creating many cherished memories.
Phyllis was the loving mother of Terri (David) Polan, Jules (Lauren) Lapin, and Dr. Sanford Lapin (late Jodi). She was a devoted grandmother to Adam, Daniel (Ashley), Jennifer, Michael (Kayla), Alyssa (Sam), Kari (Jeff), Tobie (Jeff), and Jacob (Jessica), and a cherished great-grandmother to Penelope, Jordyn, Jada, Cooper, Miles, and Beatrice.
Funeral services will be held at Waldheim Cemetery, Bikor Cholim section, Gate 30, 1400 Des Plaines Ave., Forrest Park, IL on April 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
Shiva will be at Max & Benny’s Restaurant, 461 Waukegan Rd., Northbrook, IL on April 15 from 4pm - 7pm.
