Sally P. Langan

Sally was born on June 5, 1927, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the first child of James Melville Pierce (of Des Moines, Iowa) and Grace Allfree Pierce (of Newton, Iowa). Sally graduated from University City High School in St. Louis in 1945 and attended Grinnell College before graduating from Washington University in 1949, where she was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta.

She married Edward Augustine Langan of St. Louis in October 1949 and the couple had four children, raising them initially in the St. Louis suburbs of Kirkwood and Frontenac. In late 1968, the family moved to Winnetka, Illinois. Following a divorce in 1970, Sally raised her four children as a single parent in Winnetka while teaching kindergarten and then first grade for decades in the Wilmette Public Schools. She moved to Northfield, Illinois in 1984 and to Carol Stream in her retirement.

Sally was predeceased by her beloved parents Jim and Grace; her brother James Melville Pierce (Joanne Owens); her sister Susan Pierce Hilliard (the late Robert); and her son Matthew Pierce Langan (the late Mary Elizabeth Catherine Hanrahan); and her former husband Edward A. Langan. She is survived by her devoted daughter Louise Pierce Langan Tabor of Roselle, Illinois (David); and by her other sons Edward Augustine (Ted) Langan (Amy) of Sarasota, Florida, and James Andrew Langan (Susan) of Winnetka, as well as her former daughter in law Jill Mitchell Langan of Clarendon Hills. Also surviving are Sally's four grandchildren whom she adored: Sean McCoy Langan (Annette), Eric Andrew Langan, Caroline Grace Langan and Anna Francis Langan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins from the Pierce family.

Sally will be remembered for her grace and sense of humor, her Christian Science faith, and her devotion to her family and her students. The family is grateful to the caregivers at Covenant Living at Windsor Park, Carol Stream, IL, and the Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital. All services private.
