Barbara E. Johnson

Barbara Easom Johnson, 87, died February 29th, 2024, surrounded by family. She is survived by sons Stan Johnson (Dwayne), Tim Johnson (Sharon), daughter-in law Libby Johnson, brother Neal Easom (Peggy), four grandchildren Brandon Johnson(Liz), Zachary Johnson (Carrie), Cory Johnson and Cara Johnson, and great-grandchild Stella Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theo and Jean O’Neal Easom, husband Ray Johnson, and son Kenny Johnson. Barbara was born in Fayetteville, NC on August 4, 1936 and moved to Wilmington with her parents when she was a toddler.Barbara was educated in New Hanover schools, graduating from New Hanover High School in 1954 and then attending Wilmington Junior College where she served on the cheerleading squad and was co-chairman of the Social Events Committee. She retired from a successful administrative career after 25 years with the Corps of Engineers and then joined the Institute of Political Leadership, retiring from there after 5 years. That led to her volunteering tirelessly with Winter Park Baptist Church where she was a member for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. Two of her missions were providing transportation to Church for older ladies who could no longer drive and making breakfast casseroles for the Hope Recuperative Cares, sponsored by Winter Park Baptist. She was a skilled bridge player and was still playing with her group that organized in 1962.

The Service of Celebration will be at Winter Park Baptist Church sanctuary, 4700 Wrightsville Ave Wilmington, NC 28403 on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 3 p.m. The family will greet friends afterward.

A private burial will be held Monday, March 11, 2024 at 12 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to be made to the Columbarium Fund at Winter Park Baptist Church, 4700 Wrightsville Avenue, Wilmington, NC 28403.
