On Saturday, June 7th, 2023, Benjamin Franklin Sweetland (Benny), beloved by all, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at age 9. Benjamin was born to Ryan & Christina Sweetland in November of 2013 in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Benjamin was an avid lover of music, even using it as a means of communication due to being nonverbal Autistic. His parents and siblings have countless fond memories of his singing and drumming on everything from the walls and furniture to even his family members themselves. Benjamin had the most contagious laugh and he loved to play and be silly. Benjamin loved to go for walks with his father and siblings whenever he could, often several times a day. He was happiest snuggled up under his favorite blanket with his headphones and his mother beside him.
Ben was the Sun in his family's solar system. Everything revolved around his happiness and care. His love had a gravitational pull that kept his family together during the hardest of times. Navigating the rest of their time here on earth seems cruel without him.
Benjamin is survived by his parents; Ryan & Christina Sweetland, his brothers; Cassius (Kai) Repik, Logan Kennedy, and Noah Sweetland, his sisters; Madison Denton and Ryley Sweetland. He is survived by his grandparents; Frank and Laura McNeill, Tim & Susan Sweetland, and Lucia Sweetland, uncles, and aunts; Matthew & Ashley McNeill, Johnny & Jen McNeill, Daniel Sweetland, Cara Sweetland, Patrick Sweetland, Claire Ostinett-Sweetland and Matt & Emma Reynolds as well as his 8 cousins.
A celebration of life ceremony will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations can be made to the family fundraiser:
