Bernice Peterson Croom

Mrs. Bernice Peterson Croom of Leland, born December 31, 1922 in Brunswick County to Henry Oscar and Vera Rowell Peterson, passed away April 2, 2012, after a long battle with Alzeheimer's Disease, in the loving presence of three generations of her children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Judson Hulet Croom, Sr. Together they raised two children, Monica Croom Watson of Leland and the late Judson H. Croom, Jr. of Mooresville, NC. Bernice was a devoted grandmother of seven grandchildren; Denise Peterson, Kit Cosper, Brandon Croom, Jessica Watson, Meaghan Croom, Margaret Croom and Elizabeth Croom. She was also proud great-grandmother to Will Cosper, Justin Peterson, Morgan Peterson, Keifer Cosper, Timothy Peterson, Elizabeth Cosper, and Eric Peterson. One of seven children, Bernice is survived by sisters Mary Peterson Lennon and Elsie Jane Peterson and preceded in death by her siblings Lois Peterson Saunders, H.O Peterson, Jr., Ismae Peterson Brinson and the Rev. Linwood Peterson. Her many nieces, nephews and their children were very dear to her. Bernice was a life long member of Goshen Baptist Church where she enjoyed working with the children during Vacation Bible School and when her children were small, leading the ""Sunbeam"" class. The family will receive visitors at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel from 6-8pm Wednesday, April 4th. Funeral services will be held at Goshen Baptist Church in Leland, 10:00am, Thursday April 5th with the Reverend Barbara Bell and the Reverend Dale Peterson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzeheimer's Association or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
