Carmen Maria Chavez Vera, 85, of Wilmington, entered Heaven's gates on Saturday September 13, 2014. Carmen was born December 4, 1928 in Ecuador, South America. She is the daughter of the late Enrique Alejandro Chavez and Elena Felida Veliz-Egas. Carmen came to America in 1968 to provide her husband and children with a happier, and more fulfilling life. She and her family lived in New York for 38 years, until they relocated to Wilmington in 2006. A consummate mother and hard worker, Carmen was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She was never one to put herself before others and she lived her life in the most positive way. Her actions and the incredible example that she showed her children and grandchildren are behaviors that should be emulated by all of us. Carmen was a generous, loving, supportive, and unselfish woman who always put other people before herself. She was always there when we needed her and she was the most loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. Carmen has touched the lives of everyone she knew. Even though she is gone, her memory will live on in all of our hearts forever. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Jose C.
