Charles "Dink" Edward Robinson, Sr.

Charles Edward Robinson, Sr., 92, of Wilmington, NC, affectionally known as “Dink,” passed away December 4, 2023, at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born June 28, 1931, in St. Pauls, NC, to the late Charles Henry Robinson and Bessie Perry Robinson.

Dink was an outboard motor mechanic and was employed with Marine Mechanix, Pickard’s Sporting Goods, Pennington’s Sporting Goods, and Johnson Marine Services. He was a proud member of Elks BPOE 532.

Being a lifelong musician, Dink was a member of many bands throughout the years. He played guitar, trumpet, and keyboard as well as singing lead and backup vocals. He loved to share his passion for music with anyone wanting to learn.

Dink is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Robinson, and second wife, Susan Akers Robinson; and son, Charles “Chuck” E. Robinson, Jr.

He is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Bill) Russ and Ellie Robinson; grandchildren, Sheila Russ, Cindy (Dave) Richardson, and Cortney Robinson; and great-grandchildren, Samuel, Isaiah, Abigail, Micah, and Gideon Richardson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Play It Forward Wilmington, an organization that collects and repairs instruments, donating them to those wanting to learn.  Donations can be made through Venmo or PayPal, in person at Guitar Pickers, Bass Pluckers or Otto’s Drum Shop in Wilmington, or mailed to 2121 Shirley Rd., Wilmington, NC 28405.
