Charles W. Kennedy

Charles W. Kennedy Charles William Kennedy, 89, of Leland, NC, formerly of South Bend, IN, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC. Charlie was born April 7, 1924 in Wallingford, CT, son of the late Patrick Kennedy and Theresa Darling Kennedy. His brother, George Kennedy, preceded him in death. Mr. Kennedy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. In 1950, he graduated from Holy Cross College, Worcester, MA. Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved his grandchildren and the "Fighting Irish" of Notre Dame. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florence Kennedy; six children, Patricia Lind and husband, Jeffrey, of Leland, NC, Charles Kennedy, Jr., and wife, Karen, of Columbus, OH, Nancy Hath and husband, Patrick, of Boca Raton, FL, Mary Grunwald of South Bend, IN, James Kennedy and wife, Vivian of Delray Beach, FL, and Kara Larcheid and husband, James, of Brookfield, WI; fifteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Friday, February 21, 2014, at the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary with Rev. John McGee officiating. Inurnment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
