

Christina Taylor Reid, of Wilmington, North Carolina, loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on April 11, 2026. Born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late James Alexander Taylor and Leota Daerr Taylor, she was raised in Fairmont, West Virginia, and a resident of Wilmington, NC for 60 years.
Chris is survived by her daughter, Christina Daerr Reid of Raleigh; her son, Donald Menzies Reid III of Wilmington, his wife Suzanne, and their son, Donald Menzies Reid IV; her daughter, Katherine Reid Reeves of Raleigh, and her stepsons, Ralph Bernard Reeves IV and Daniel MacQuarrie Reeves; her sister, Carolyn Taylor Tebay of Fort Mill, South Carolina; brother, George Bean Taylor, and his wife Janette of Oneida, Tennessee; niece Catherine Melissa Tebay Rohrbaugh, her husband Curtis Rohrbaugh and children McClay and Finn, of Jackson Hole Wyoming, nephew, Harry Talbott Tebay II and his wife Jodeen and their children Hal and Emerson of Jackson Hole Wyoming; She is also survived by sister-in-law Ann Yost Taylor of Houston, Texas and many more nieces and nephews.
Chris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Donald Menzies Reid, Jr. her parents James Alexander Taylor and Leota Daerr Taylor, her son-in-law, Ralph Bernard Reeves III. And her brother James Alexander Taylor.
Chris attended Chatham College and graduated from West Virginia State, and started her career working for the Electric Company until she met the love of her life. Chris and Don’s amazing love story began on April 20, 1963 when they were married in Fairmont, WV. They moved to NC shortly after that and began a beautiful life together.
Chris was known to her family and friends to love art, music, gardening, politics and business. She was ahead of her time as a female entrepreneur and was one of the first women to run for Board of Education in New Hanover County. Chris was the president of the Junior League of Wilmington in 1976. Don and Chris bought the Hickory Farms business in Hanover Center in 1976, Chris ran the family business for over 30 years (with the help of Don, the children, and all of their friends). She held a position on the national board for Franchisees for Hickory farms for over 10 years.
Chris was not only a kind, gentle person, she had fortitude and resolve, and was decisive in leadership. She impacted all who knew her as a beacon of strength with her calm, thoughtful presence. She enjoyed Friday nights with the “Friday Night Crew” for more than 40 years. In recent years, the highlight of her days was playing bridge every other Monday with her dear friends.
She was a member of Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington, and the Carolina Yacht Club at Wrightsville Beach, The Junior League of Wilmington, she served on the St. Johns Museum board, and volunteered for the soup kitchen at St. James Parish.
Chris’s center was Don, they created a beautiful life together filled with love, laughter and music.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Lebanon Chapel, 814 Airlie Road.
