David Ross Swain

David Ross Swain, 72, of Wilmington, NC passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010. David was born in Southport, NC on September 11, 1937 to the late Cassie Bennett Swain and F. Herbert Swain, Sr. David was a proud veteran serving in the US Navy on board the USS Tarawa. He was later in the dairy business with his father and brothers for several years, and then served as Administrator for Brunswick County from 1975 to 1982. The past 20 years David was in the commercial building industry as a Building Superintendent. David was a dedicated Christian and a faithful member of Scotts Hill Baptist Church, serving as an usher and greeter until his time of sickness. He was a member of the Ed Davis Sunday School Class. David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gloria Jones Swain of the home; three children, Edward Eddie Swain and wife Hildur of Hampstead, Brenda Swain Evans, and husband Kenwood Ken of Wilmington, and Charles Swain and wife Courtney of Wilmington. Grandchildren, Tiffany Andrews Kevin, Christopher Swain Latoya, Krystal Evans Bullock Seth, Nicholas Swain, Zacharia Swain, Myles Swain, Spencer Swain, Katharina Swain, Helena Swain and Annika Swain. Great grandchildren, Alyssa, Aden, and Alex Andrews; David and Brandon Swain. Brothers, F. Herbert Swain, Jr.Bennie of Sunset Harbor, and Robert W. Swain Rose of Warsaw; special nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel, Wilmington. Celebration of life ceremony will be 11 am Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Scott Hill Baptist Church, 185 Scotts Hill Loop Rd., Wilmington officiated by Rev. Jimmie Suggs and Rev. Jim Dunn. Burial will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Dr., Wilmington. Pallbearers will be Livingston Lewis, Larry Bell, James Armstrong, Charles Atkinson, Larry Murray, George Yates, and Thomas Tuttle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Scotts Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 185 Scotts Hill Loop Rd. Wilmington, NC 28411 or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401 in memory of David R. Swain.
