David Pryse Thomas, III, left this earth on April 25, 2026, at the age of 41. He was a true waterman, growing up fishing in Hewletts and other tidal creeks. Later he enjoyed fishing offshore with his brother Joe and dad David. David was also an avid surfer and competed in the ESA contests. He made several ocean sailing voyages between Long Island Sound and the Virgin Islands. Two very special sailing trips were with his wife, Lauren and his mom and dad, David & Diane, where they explored the Bahamas from Abaco to Great Exuma.
David married the love of his life, Lauren Garvey, and they resided in Scotts Hill. Together they enjoyed an active social life, boating to our barrier islands with their dog, “Belle”, tending their vegetable garden and chickens. They enjoyed visiting Lauren's parents, Janet and Pat Garvey, of Charlotte, and had good times with Lauren's entire family.
David graduated from Cape Fear Community College with a degree in Marine Technology. During his time at CFC he was excited to participate in the raising of a couple of cannons from Black Beard's ship off Beaufort.
He was a member of the Marine Warehouse team for roughly a dozen years. He worked in all aspects of the boat service sector starting out hauling boats, fixing trailers, and installing hardware. Later he attended outboard mechanics school and worked on servicing outboard motors and installing instruments. Recently he moved into sales of boats, motors, and trailers and enjoyed interaction with his employers and clients.
He is survived by his wife Lauren Garvey Thomas; his brother Joe (wife Nia), and nephew Mathew; his Aunt Pam Nesbitt; and his mom and dad David and Diane Thomas.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm Friday, May 8, 2026, at Andrews Market Street Chapel with Rev. Jay Sidebotham officiating. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 2:00pm until the service hour.
