Donald Wayne Wells Donald Wayne Wells, devoted husband, father and friend, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born May 17, 1943, the son of the late Leonard Wells and Alma Gray Wells of Burgaw. Donald was a proud veteran of the US Army who served during the Vietnam era. He retired from Ideal Cement after 17 years of service and from Louisiana Pacific after 7 years of employment. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Gregory Benjamin Wells and a sister, Larrisa Messer. Survivors include his wife, Shelby F. Wells, three sons, Asher Lee Wells of the home, Brantley Wayne Wells, of Chapel Hill and Robbie Bascom Wells of Bolton; two daughters, Hope Wells McFarland of Kernersville and Opal Marie Wells Burton of Leland; six sisters, one brother; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
