

Doug was born and raised in Wilmington until he moved to Raleigh, NC to attend North Carolina State University. At NCSU, he studied applied mathematics and computer science. He worked successfully in these fields throughout his career, living in Massachusetts, New York, and California, and eventually returning to North Carolina in 2009.
Doug returned to his home state to care for his parents in their latter years which he did capably and lovingly. During his retirement years in Wilmington, Doug continued to serve others by hosting holiday meals for friends and delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling locally and abroad, and attending theatrical and Broadway performances. His passion for traveling provided Doug with the opportunity to pursue another of his interests, learning foreign languages, German, French, Spanish, and Russian, among them. More recently, Doug took up fishing with varying success.
Doug will be remembered by his family for his thoughtfulness and generosity. He took great delight in surprising his nieces and nephews with unique toys and gifts when they were young. A family gathering of Doug, his brothers, and extended family was always a time of great fun and laughter. He will be greatly missed by his brothers Greg (Jennifer), Andy (Carrie), Michael, friend James Chaps, nephews Kelsey Allen, Noah Allen, Will Allen, and nieces Katie Baska and Rae Allen as well as many cousins and long-time friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate donations be given to a charity of your choice. Doug will be interred beside his parents at Oakdale Cemetery.
