

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Eleanor Gray Lassiter Couch, 91, of Leland, NC, on August 18, 2025, at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Eleanor has gone home to be with our Lord and Savior, finding peace through her unwavering relationship with Him.
Born on January 6, 1934, in Goldsboro, NC, Eleanor was a beacon of light in her community, exemplifying profound faith and an unwavering spirit. Her love for her church was a cornerstone of her existence, and she poured her heart and soul into its ministries and fellowship. She was known for her angelic soprano voice and sang for many years in the choir at Carroll Memorial Baptist Church. Children were her heart, and her spirit was a magnet to them. She served faithfully for years in the nursery, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. She also cared for many children in her home and worked in childcare at Faith Care Children’s Center for over 20 years. She truly lived out her faith, demonstrating the transformative power of God's love through her every action and word. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to resonate within our hearts and in the church she cherished so dearly. We find comfort in knowing she is now in the eternal presence of her Savior.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Donna Lassiter Witz and Brenda Lassiter Jackson, and her son Eddie Ray Lassiter and his wife Tracey; her grandchildren: Brian Witz and wife Kristin, Amber Jackson Tibbetts, Jason Sellers and wife Emilie, Dewey Jackson II, Christen Jackson Cokes and husband Justin, Tyler Lassiter and wife Jordan, and Kaci Lassiter; her great-grandchildren: Taylor Tibbetts, Joseph Witz, Walker Witz, Jackson Krishingner, Madison Sellers, Justin Cokes Jr., Chase Sellers, Reagan Sellers, Eleanor “Ellie” Gray Cokes, Sadie Lassiter, and Riley Lassiter; and her sister, Selma Lee Whitley and husband Ernest.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Edward Ray Lassiter; her husband of 5 years, Glenn Couch; her daughter, Linda Lassiter Sellers; her sons-in-law, Rev. DC Jackson and Timothy Sellers; her mother, Josephine Strickland; her father, Carl Worrell; and her brother, James Barry “JB” Worrell.
A visitation for Eleanor will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Pine Valley Baptist Church, 3940 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 4509 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC.
