Betty was preceded in death by her parents Ernest Sutton, Sr. and Mary Gillespie as well as three brothers and two sisters.
She was formerly of Wilmington and worked as a teacher in New Hanover County for 30 years. She was a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators and a national member of the Educator's Association.
She is survived by six nephews and three nieces and a close friend, Ruth White.
Burial will be private at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one's choice.
