

Rick was born in Malden, Massachusetts to his father, Frederick Lyon, and mother, Joan Benson. He loved and admired his father as well as his step mother Helen “Betty” Lyon.
At the age of 17 Rick enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served proudly for 4 years. After his service, he went on to earn his BA from Rutgers University and MPA from Seton Hall. Rick worked as a police officer in Bridgewater Township, NJ for 28 years. Upon retiring he relocated with his family to Leland, NC and worked for the Army at Sunny Point. In his retirement, he enjoyed his time playing golf and poker with his buddies.
Rick was a very proud and loving father of his two sons, Josh, of Omaha, and Paul, of Denver. In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Marguerite Mokar, his brother-in-law Stanley Mokar, and his niece and nephew, Jason and Janis.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 am Monday, March 19, 2018 at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412.
