James "Pat" Moran

James Patrick Moran, 89, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 after a years long battle with dementia. Pat was born in Lockport, NY. He had a long career with Moore Business Forms and Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel as Forms Control Manager. As a second career, Pat, along with his wife Lois, started a furniture repair and refinishing business. Starting in the late 1960’s, Pat spent many years coaching youth ice hockey with the Wheeling Amateur Hockey Association (WV) and was instrumental in starting the girls hockey program at the rink.

In 1989, Pat and Lois retired and moved to Carolina Beach, NC, where they became very active members of Immaculate Conception Church. He was the original president of his neighborhood HOA, managed Scotchman stores in Carolina Beach and loved spending time working on projects around the house. He served in the US Air Force as a weatherman and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.

Pat is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois Doyle Moran; two daughters, Mary Kate (Ted) Eberle of Holly Springs, NC, and Bridget (Jack) McDuffie of St. Croix USVI. He is also survived by grandsons, Patrick of Madison, WI, and Quinn, Eric, and Matthew of Holly Springs, NC.

Services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 6650 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC 28412 at 9 am Friday, January 27, 2023. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, or a charity of your choosing.
